A short history of the area
Cuautla is associated with the Siege of Cuautla in 1812 and the Battle of Cuautla in 1911. Cuautla FC is the city's football club.
The Church here
- 1877After portions of the Book of Mormon were translated into Spanish, missionaries baptized the first converts in Hermosillo.
- 1879A branch was organized in Mexico City.
- 1884A church member was called to serve as president of the Mexico Mission in Mexico City.
- 1890Missionaries were removed from central Mexico. Simon Zuñiga continued directing weekly services as branch president in Cuautla.
- 1901The Mexican Mission was reopened with Ammon M. Tenney as mission president.
- 1944Temple ordinances were translated into Spanish.
- 1945Mexican Latter-day Saints traveled to Mesa, Arizona, and became the first in Church history to receive temple ordinances in a language other than English.
- 1961The Mexico Stake was created in Mexico City, becoming the first Spanish-speaking stake in the Church.
- 1975The Cuautla Mexico Stake was organized on November 9.
