A short history of the area
Pachuca became an important mining center. In 1554, Bartolomé de Medina developed the patio process for extracting silver from ore. Cornish miners and technology arrived in 1824, helping shape the city's culture. Pachuca was declared a city in 1813 and is also known as La Bella Airosa, or “The Windy Beauty.”

- 1875The Church sent its first missionaries to Mexico after portions of the Book of Mormon had been translated into Spanish.
- 1877Missionaries baptized the first converts in Hermosillo.
- 1879A branch was organized in Mexico City.
- 1944Temple ordinances were translated into Spanish.
- 1945Mexican Latter-day Saints traveled to Mesa, Arizona, to receive temple ordinances in Spanish, the first time Church temple ordinances were received in a language other than English.
