A short history of the area
Santiago de Querétaro became a city in 1655 and received the title Noble y Leal Ciudad de Santiago de Querétaro. Its historic center became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1996. Querétaro also played an important role in Mexican history, including the promulgation of the country’s current constitution at Teatro de la República in 1917.

- 1870sMexico’s growing religious liberty led Brigham Young to conclude that the restored gospel should be taken to Mexico.
