A short history of the area
Quezon City became the national capital in 1948 and was formally inaugurated in 1949. Manila regained capital status in 1976, while the whole of Metro Manila became the seat of government. Today, Quezon City is known as the City of Stars and the Entertainment Capital of the Philippines.
The Church here
- 1898Two Church members serving with a United States artillery battery began preaching in the Philippines.
- 1961Missionary work began in earnest, and the Church received official recognition in the Philippines.
- 1963Mary Ellen Edmunds and Carol Smithen, the first sister missionaries assigned to the Philippines, arrived in Quezon City.
- 1967The Philippine Mission was organized.
- 1973The first stake in the Philippines was organized.
- 1983The Philippines Missionary Training Center officially opened in Quezon City.
- 1984The country’s first temple was dedicated in Quezon City.
- 1990A Church News report described the Philippines Quezon City Mission as having been created the previous year and serving an area near Manila.
