A short history of the area
Salto stands on the eastern margins of the Uruguay River. The nearby Salto Grande waterfalls and rapids once made upstream navigation impossible.
The Church here
- 1940Uruguay's first contact with the Church came through the South American basketball championship in Montevideo, where missionary Rolf Larson played for Argentina.
- 1944The first congregation in Uruguay was organized for North Americans working in the country.
- 1947The Uruguay Mission was organized.
- 1948By the end of the year, 14 congregations had been organized in Uruguay.
- 1957Nearly 500 converts were joining the Church annually.
- 1961The Salto Branch was completely reorganized.
- 2026The Uruguay Salto Mission was organized on July 1.
