A short history of the area
Henry Hewitt Jr. and Charles L. Colby planned an industrial city on Port Gardner Bay in 1890. The city was named after Colby's son, Everett, and incorporated on May 4, 1893. Everett became the Snohomish County seat in 1897.
The Church here
- 1854Four missionaries serving in California were sent to labor in the Washington and Oregon territories. Enough converts joined to form a congregation along the Lewis River.
- 1930Church membership in Washington was 1,900 in eight congregations, with chapels in Everett, Spokane, Seattle, and Olympia.
- 1980The Seattle Washington Temple was completed.
- 1999The Spokane Washington Temple was completed and dedicated.
- July 1, 2001The Washington Everett Mission was created by reorganizing the Washington Seattle Mission and the Washington Tacoma Mission.
- 2001The Columbia River Washington Temple was completed and dedicated.
