A short history of the area
The Northern Pacific Railroad built a temporary bridge between Kennewick and Pasco in 1887, followed by a permanent bridge in 1888. Later, the Hanford site helped produce plutonium for the Fat Man bomb used at Nagasaki in 1945. In 1996, an ancient skeleton known as Kennewick Man was found along the Columbia River.
