A short history of the area

Córdoba, Argentina, is the capital of Córdoba Province and the second-largest city in the country. Jesuits established themselves in Córdoba from its founding in 1573.

The Jesuits built a major religious and educational center in Córdoba, including the country’s first university. Córdoba is also the name of a province in Argentina and a historic city in Spain that was once the imperial capital of Islamic Spain.

The Church here

1923Wilhelm Friedrichs and Emil Hoppe, two German immigrants, began preaching the gospel in Buenos Aires.
1925Apostle Melvin J. Ballard dedicated South America for the preaching of the gospel, and the South American Mission was established in December.
1938The Church was permanently established in Córdoba.
1946Foreign missionaries returned to Argentina after having been withdrawn during the 1940s.
1962The North Argentine Mission was organized and later renamed the Argentina Córdoba Mission.
1986The Buenos Aires Argentina Temple was dedicated.
2015A second temple in Córdoba was completed.
2018A temple to be built in Salta was announced.
