A short history of the area
The settlement was named for Sir Thomas Brisbane, governor of New South Wales. Brisbane became the capital of the newly separated Colony of Queensland in 1859. Today, it is Australia's third-largest city and is known as the River City.

- 1844The first Latter-day Saint branch in Australia was organized.
