A short history of the area
Today, Perth is known as the City of Light. The nickname became associated with residents lighting their homes and streetlights as astronaut John Glenn passed overhead in 1962. The city's warm climate, beaches, parks, and Swan River make it a distinctive place to serve.

- 1840William Barratt introduced the restored gospel to Australia.
- 1844The first Latter-day Saint branch in Australia was organized.
- 1851The Australian Mission was organized.
- 1888Latter-day Saint missionaries arrived in Perth, Western Australia.
- 1907Missionaries were sent to Perth for the first time, and a branch was organized that same year.
- 1966–67The Perth Australia Stake was organized, becoming the first stake in Western Australia.
