A short history of the area
The city was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1987 for its modernist architecture and artistic urban planning. Brasília is Brazil’s third-most populous city and has a tropical savanna climate, with a rainy season from October through April and a dry season from May through September.

- 1928Responding to requests from German members living in Brazil, missionaries began preaching in southern Brazil.
- 1930sAnti-German sentiment led to a government ban on German in public, and Church services soon shifted to Portuguese.
- 1940The Portuguese translation of the Book of Mormon was first published.
- 1966The first stake in South America was created in São Paulo.
- 1978After the priesthood revelation, hundreds of thousands of people were baptized in Brazil, and wards and stakes became established throughout the country.
- 2017The Brasília Brazil Temple was announced on April 2 as Brazil’s 10th temple.
