A short history of the area
Daloa was repeatedly contested during the First Ivorian Civil War from 2002 to 2004. Today, it is the seat of the Sassandra-Marahoué District and Haut-Sassandra Region and is an important center for cocoa trading.
The Church here
- 1980Lucien Affoué joined the Church in France, and Philippe Assard joined the Church in Germany.
- 1987Côte d’Ivoire was dedicated for the preaching of the gospel, and the first baptisms in the country took place.
- Early 1990sMany Ivorian youth were serving missions or preparing to serve.
- 1993More than 300 people attended the first youth conference in Côte d’Ivoire.
- 1997The first stake in Côte d’Ivoire was organized.
- 2004The Accra Ghana Temple was dedicated, giving Ivorian Saints a temple where they could make temple covenants.
- 2008–2009Church members began moving toward Daloa, and local families worked to find Saints living in the area and started a small group.
- 2014The Church established its first branch in Daloa.
- 2015President Thomas S. Monson announced that a temple would be built in Abidjan.
