A short history of the area
The post office moved to the present downtown area in 1857 and reopened as Orlando. The town was incorporated in 1875, and the city was incorporated in 1885. Orlando later became a center of Florida's citrus industry and experienced major growth after Walt Disney World opened in 1971.

- 1843Elders Daniel Cathcart and William Brown were sent to Pensacola to build up churches.
- November 1, 1895The Florida Conference was officially organized within the Southern States Mission.
- 1897The first official Church congregation in Florida was organized in Jefferson County.
- 1904Florida had 1,230 Church members.
- November 1, 1960The Florida Mission was organized from the Southern States Mission.
- October 9, 1994President Howard W. Hunter dedicated the Orlando Florida Temple.
