A short history of the area
After World War II, Berlin was divided into four sectors. The Berlin Wall divided the city from 1961 until it fell on November 9, 1989. Germany was reunified on October 3, 1990, and Berlin again became the capital of all Germany.

- 1840Elder Orson Hyde wrote, “There is a great work to be done in Germany.”
- 1851Elder John Taylor, George P. Dykes, and George Viett organized a small branch in Hamburg.
- 1852The Book of Mormon, translated by George P. Dykes and George Viett, was published.
- 1868Karl G. Maeser became president of the Swiss and German Mission, called local members as branch leaders, and began publishing Der Stern.
- 1876The first missionaries arrived in Berlin. About 18 people were baptized that year.
- 1877The first ward was established in Berlin.
- 1880The first German conference was held in Berlin.
- 1990German reunification took place after Saints had continued meeting through World War II and the division of Germany.
