A short history of the area
The city became an Imperial Free City in 1372. German kings and Holy Roman Emperors were elected and crowned there from 1562 to 1792. Frankfurt became part of Hesse after World War II in 1945.

- 1851Elder John Taylor, George P. Dykes, and George Viett organized a small branch in Hamburg.
- 1852The German translation of the Book of Mormon was published, and the German Mission was organized to administer Germany.
- 1868Karl G. Maeser became president of the Swiss and German Mission, called local members as branch leaders, and began publishing Der Stern.
- 1894The Frankfurt Branch was established.
- 1938The West German Mission was organized in Frankfurt am Main from the former Swiss-German and Austrian-German Missions.
- 1960The European Mission was reestablished with headquarters in Frankfurt.
- 1976The Frankfurt Germany Stake was organized.
- 1987The Frankfurt Temple in West Germany was dedicated on August 28.
