A short history of the area
Fort Wayne grew as a canal and railroad center. The Wabash and Erie Canal improved travel in the 1820s and 1840s, and the Pittsburgh, Fort Wayne and Chicago Railway was completed in 1854. Today, Fort Wayne is known as the Summit City and is Indiana's second-most populous city.

- 1831Latter-day Saint missionaries preached in Madison, Unionville, and Vienna, Indiana, and organized congregations.
- 1832Church President Joseph Smith visited Greenville for one month.
- 1843Church branches were found in 30 Indiana counties.
- 1959The Indianapolis Stake, the first stake in Indiana, was organized on May 17.
- 1962The Fort Wayne Indiana Mission was organized on March 4.
- 2008After severe floods in southern Indiana, Latter-day Saint volunteers distributed supplies and cleared debris.
- 2012Church members helped with tornado cleanup in Bloomington, New Albany, Perkin, Borden, and Henryville.
