A short history of the area
The city was renamed Ciudad Juarez in 1888 in honor of Mexican president Benito Juarez. Its growth increased after the Mexican Central Railway arrived in 1882. The city also played an important role in the Mexican Revolution, including the 1911 siege led by Francisco I. Madero.

- 1936–1946Tensions with returning mission leadership led to a painful schism in the Church in Mexico before members were reconciled.

- 1945Mexican Saints traveled to Mesa, Arizona, and became the first in Church history to receive temple ordinances in a language other than English.

Fun facts
- Ciudad Juarez and El Paso form the second-largest binational metropolitan area on the Mexico–United States border, after San Diego–Tijuana.
- In 1909, Porfirio Díaz and William Howard Taft held a summit in Ciudad Juarez and El Paso. It was the first meeting between a Mexican and a United States president, and the first time a United States president crossed the border into Mexico.
- On December 26–27, 2015, parts of Ciudad Juarez received 40 centimeters of snow in 24 hours, exceeding the previous record set in 1951.
