A short history of the area
Puebla became a city in 1532 and was named Ciudad de los Angeles. In 1862, Mexican forces defeated about 6,000 French troops at the Battle of Puebla. The city’s historic center became a World Heritage Site in 1987.

- 1870sReligious liberty in Mexico led Brigham Young to conclude that the restored gospel should be taken to Mexico.
- 1877After portions of the Book of Mormon were translated into Spanish, missionaries baptized the first converts in Hermosillo.
