About the mission

Fort Worth is the main city of the Texas Fort Worth Mission. Known as Cowtown, the city began as a U.S. Army outpost beside the Trinity River and grew into a major Texas city.

Missionaries serve in English and Spanish. Fort Worth offers a mix of Western heritage, busy city life, museums, parks, and strong community traditions.

A short history of the area

Fort Worth was established in 1849 as an army outpost on a bluff overlooking the Trinity River. Major Ripley A. Arnold established Camp Worth on June 6, 1849, and the U.S. War Department officially named it Fort Worth on November 14 of that year. The fort was abandoned on September 17, 1853.

The Texas and Pacific Railway reached Fort Worth in 1876, helping the city grow and turning the Fort Worth Stockyards into a major center for cattle trade. Today, Fort Worth is known for its Western heritage, museums, parks, and daily cattle drive.
