A short history of the area
Francisco Pizarro founded Lima on January 6, 1535, naming it the City of the Kings. Lima became the capital of the Viceroyalty of Peru in 1543 and the capital of the independent Republic of Peru in 1821.
The Church here
- July 1956Elder Henry D. Moyle organized a branch in Lima.
- August 1956Four missionaries arrived in Lima and began preaching.
- November 1956A building for branch meetings was purchased.
- 1959The Andes Mission was organized in Lima. At that time, it had five branches and 300 members.
- 1961The mission was divided.
- 1974The Peru Mission was renamed the Peru Lima Mission.
- 1977The Peru Lima Mission was divided into the Peru Lima South and Peru Lima North Missions.
- January 1988Seven stakes were created in Lima in one weekend.
- 1988The Peru Lima East Mission was organized.
