A short history of the area
Trujillo declared its independence from Spain on December 29, 1820. It is considered the first independent city in Peru.

- Before July 1956Latter-day Saint families in Peru held group meetings.
- July 1956An official branch, described as a small congregation, was organized.
- 1959The Andes Mission was organized with 300 members in five congregations.
- January 1988Seven stakes were created in one weekend during a visit by Elder M. Russell Ballard.
- 1988The Church had created seven stakes in one weekend, 32 years after missionary work began in Peru.
