A short history of the area
The Wallachian court moved permanently to Bucharest in 1698. The city became Romania's capital in 1862 after Wallachia and Moldavia united, and it became the political center of the Kingdom of Romania in 1881. Bucharest is also known as Little Paris or the Paris of the East.

- 1899Mischa Markow preached in what is now Romania and established branches in Bucharest, Timişoara, and Braşov.
- December 1990The first young missionaries in modern times arrived in Romania.
- 1991The first branch in modern Romania was organized in Bucharest, with Octavian Vasilescu as branch president and Doina Biolaru as Relief Society president.
- 1993The Romania Bucharest Mission was organized, with John R. Morrey as its first president.
- By 2000Branches existed in Bucharest, Constanța, Piteşti, Ploieşti, Arad, Timişoara, Cluj-Napoca, Oradea, Sibiu, Bacău, Braşov, Galați, and Iaşi.
